Share Save If you’re a T-Mobile customer, your company just gave you a very unexpected gift at yesterday’s UnCarrier event: Yes, a fully functioning, magenta-branded, ASUS-built router, which can do essentially everything your current router can do — and if yours is old, this will likely do even more. The company is going all-in on its commitment to providing every subscriber and every carrier-branded smartphone with free WiFi calling, and the router — called the T-Mobile Personal CellSpot — is the icing on the cake.
But, you may ask, why is this a thing that’s happening in the year , especially when most of us already have access to a router and thus, WiFi calling nearly everywhere we go? It’s a very good question, because the CellSpot isn’t a necessity if you want to take advantage of WiFi calling at home, work or the local Starbucks. Chances are you already have a router that can handle that, but CMO Mike Sievert believes customers will enjoy it because it’s a portable device that’s easy to set up wherever you go.

The switch did not go exactly as I thought it would, but the result was better than I had imagined. I saved more than half than what I was paying Sprint and got a new phone relatively cheap. I hit a couple of snags, but considering how much money I saved, it was worth it. I first learned about Ting through their parent company, Tucows, who made their name as a domain name registrar.
My past experience with another of their companies, OpenSRS was good, so knew Ting was going to be good, too. As I looked at the plans and used their savings calculator, I found I could save half of what I spending with Sprint, and I was sold. The only thing keeping me switching right away was my contract with Sprint, which, at the time, would not expire for another couple of months. I did not want to go without a phone for any amount of time and wanted to keep my number, so the BYO S D program was out, but I was still determined to move to Ting.
Google Voice — I use Google Voice for my voicemail. The only problem I have had so far is I have not been able to get texts to forward to Google Voice as I did with Sprint. The benefit here was that the texts would show up in my email if I was somewhere where I did not have service, but still had WIFI. It was also good for keeping an archive of texts.
Battery life is not so great on the Samsung Transform Ultra. Despite the problems with that particular phone, Ting is still great.
Sprint AIRAVE review
The technician had me erase my iPad, so it would appear as if it was “new, out of the box” and I got the “Hello” screen. We didn’t do too much in terms of answering questions, but we did hook up to my WiFi and launch Messages. Because my iPad had been erased and we didn’t take the time to recover other information, when I initialized Messages there were no contacts in my list and all my previous texts were missing.
I sent a test text to a friend and he received it and I received his response on my iPad. This was a “blue” contact. At this point, the technician said it wasn’t a hardware problem.

The natural reaction when this happens is to call out the Sprint network and blame them for the bad signal. But isolating the cause of your poor coverage is not that easy. Why your cell signal sucks Signal blockage is such a pervasive problem that we did blog post and video about it. This is a simple explanation of what happens. Cell phone communications — whether they are data or voice — travel over radio waves. You know about this already from listening to FM radio in a vehicle.
The same thing happens to your cell phone signal. And unfortunately, almost any obstruction between your location and the Sprint tower will weaken or completely block your signal. Common Obstructions Obstructions include natural features like hills, any building or other structure, even trees and weather conditions like rain or fog.
And of course distance takes a toll on signal strength as well. The further you are from the Sprint tower, the weaker that signal will be when it gets to you. It collects existing cell signal outside, then amplifies and retransmits the signal inside your vehicle, office or home so any phones or other cell devices can use it. The booster then reverses that process to send amplified signal back to the Sprint tower. How a Sprint microcell works This process is completely different from how the Sprint Airave microcell works.

The long-awaited CDMA femtocell once dubbed the Samsung Ubicell essentially acts as a super in-house signal booster, or, if you’d prefer, a mini Sprint tower sitting right beside your router. If the concept is ringing a bell, it’s because you’ve certainly seen a similar setup with T-Mobile’s Home service. And more importantly, is it worth the extra coin? Read on to find out. Design There’s not a whole lot to say here, but we figured we’d give you a quick rundown of the hardware before digging into the actual performance.
The box itself is no bigger than most home routers, it’s lightweight, and it can be stored horizontally or vertically. After running overnight, the device was still rather cool to the touch, so there’s no worry of it melting anything that’s sure to sandwich it in your already cramped desk. And yeah, about that GPS port. Furthermore, Sprint claims that this unit is all ready to support multiple callers, and while that is indeed true, the actual bandwidth requirements are a touch harder to come by.
For a single call, you need at least 40Kbps up and down in order to not break up, while 2 callers needs twice that and 3 callers thrice.

I’ve had sprint four months ago and their CS was far superior to what I’m getting from t-mobile. They take hours to address the problem and dont even confront it properly But it seems customer service is the first reason why any company loses buisness. Which company I end up with is dependant on a lot of factors, mostly keeping my wife happy and my life easier.
Kevin unregistered I switched to Sprint in late ’08 and all the problems I’ve had with devices and activations, I always went through their customer service chat online for support.

The first few weeks the service went well. However, the next few months that followed. The service both customer and mobile has seriously degraded. I have been in contact with Sprint over the last few months to get their help. He found this out by checking some tool. Although I don’t have that recorded since it was a phone call. I do have the chat where another rep admitted to an outage. Below is only the discussion about the plan they offered but did not honor – Buyer beware

Review In a perfect world, your mobile phone would always find a reliable connection for voice and data. But, as any cell phone user can tell you, even on the virtually ubiquitous Verizon Wireless network, dead spots remain. Like the Sprint Airave , it’s essentially a femtocell that is, your own private cell tower that provides an extra bar or two for your voice communications on a mobile. This accessory doesn’t provide better data coverage at home, but it can help you ditch the landline for good.
It looks exactly like a Wi-Fi router but is nothing of the sort. Instead, the all-black enclosure has a small antenna that connects on the back and one Ethernet port you connect to your existing Wi-Fi router.

Ubee-AirWalk selected VxWorks because of its need for hard real-time requirements, a rich network stack, security capabilities and specialized processor support. Ubee-AirWalk is a leader in small cell technology, with a portfolio including femtocells, picocells and metrocells. Small cells are compact wireless base stations that expand and enhance network service in high-usage areas.
Picocells and metrocells are typically deployed in public areas to fill in coverage gaps unreachable by the existing macro infrastructure. Residential and enterprise femtocells are well-suited as in-building solutions to bring stronger cellular coverage into the home or office. The AIRAVE Pro Connect enterprise femtocells improve cellular reception and increase coverage and capacity at enterprises, campuses, government buildings and other public venues using a broadband connection.
The AIRAVE Pro Connect allows Sprint to expand voice and data service to new venues and enhance coverage with existing customers with a cost-effective, in-building solution. To address the challenges of increasing mobile traffic and high expectations for user experience and uninterrupted connectivity, Ubee-AirWalk needed to meet hard real-time processing requirements to develop a product that could reliably offload heavy voice and data usage from the macro cellular network to a corporate network.

Not a full review, but some first impressions after having spent a day and a half with this tablet. I organized it with subheads for easier perusal. Well, anyway… So you asked about the iPad.
I’d like to vid chat with my girlfriends, like I do on my computer. And in bright sunlight, forget it. The screen’s not meant to handle that, so sitting by a window and reading my fav iBook or e-magazine on the iPad isn’t going to cut it for me. I get enough headaches without inducing more.

Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. No, a different phone is not going to help you. You have 2 options, really Assuming you can get cell service outside the home with 1 or 2 full bars.
Well, me receiving this and having issues with it decided to make me look at what other carriers have to compare. It is a little different but has the same idea, to provide coverage in your area where good coverage doesn’t exist. The Sprint Airave has some good thoughts in mind, but the Network Extender is probably better. The basic services and features of it are nearly identical to that of Verizon Wireless. These key services include: Three User Channel Capacity 5, square feet of coverage Installs in minutes using a Broadband internet connection.

Provided you’re working from home or in a small office, all you need is a Wi-Fi adapter for the PC and a Wi-Fi router connected to a high-speed modem. A Wi-Fi router is not appropriate for larger offices with several PCs or offices with existing network security in place. If that’s the case, you should consult with an experienced network technician who can recommend an appropriate wireless access point and install it so that it doesn’t compromise your existing security.
Purchase a Wi-Fi router if you are installing Wi-Fi in your home or a small office without high network security needs. Most consumer-grade models today work with both cable and DSL modems without any complications. Most also offer WPA2 encryption and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, which are vital for protecting your data, but you should still read the product description to make sure these are included, especially if you are buying an older model.
Read the manufacturer’s documentation to see how the router should be configured. In some cases, you may need to install software on one computer in the network.
